Unlocking the Thrill of Numbers: Middle Schoolers Excel in Dynamic Math Treasure Hunt

Mathematics extended far beyond traditional textbooks as the Middle School Mathematics Department hosted an invigorating Math Treasure Hunt for Class 8 CBSE students. Held on July 8, 2026, across the vibrant GIIS KL school campus, the event successfully transformed complex problem-solving into a high-energy adventure designed to foster teamwork, logical thinking, and a genuine enthusiasm for numbers.

The competition unfolded in two demanding rounds. The initial phase featured an intense Puzzle Challenge where teams put pen to paper to tackle mathematical riddles, intricate number puzzles, and brain teasers within a strict time limit. This preliminary round served as a rigorous test of analytical abilities, with only the top-performing teams earning the opportunity to advance to the ultimate physical test.

The excitement reached its peak during the second round, a campus-wide Treasure Hunt. Armed with mathematical clues and strategy, qualifying teams navigated key landmarks across the school, including the library, canteen, kindergarten area, art room, and staffrooms. At every checkpoint, participants had to decode a new mathematical puzzle to unlock their next destination, filling the hallways with active collaboration, strategic communication, and energetic peer-to-peer learning.

Beyond testing numerical agility, the event championed holistic learning values by directly supporting Sustainable Development Goals and key educational frameworks. The active physical navigation across campus promoted physical movement in line with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), while the collaborative format reflected SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through cooperative teamwork. Furthermore, the event contributed to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by creating engaging, real-world learning experiences. This unique blend of logic and action perfectly embodied the 9GEMS framework, fostering Academic Excellence (GEM 1), encouraging Innovation and Creativity (GEM 5) as students decoded complex riddles, and driving practical Skill Development (GEM 9) through teamwork and critical thinking.
